Genshin Impact Flins Controversy: Why Players Are Skipping This Character in 6.0

The upcoming Genshin Impact Version 6.0 is shaping up to be one of the game's most exciting updates yet. Players will travel to Nod-Krai, a region in the icy nation of Snezhnaya, and meet a host of new characters. While most will appear as NPCs, developer HoYoverse has confirmed three new playable units: Aino, Lauma, and Flins.

Among them, Flins quickly emerged as a community favorite. Early leaks described him as a 5-star Electro DPS with a powerful kit, leading many players to plan their pulls around his debut. However, recent beta test changes have thrown those plans into question.

Major Beta Nerfs for Flins

According to a post on Reddit by u/ISRUKRENG, 6.0 Beta Phase 2 adjustments have significantly reduced Flins' damage output, particularly his Elemental Burst, which is the core of his kit. At Talent Level 10, the following changes were leaked:

  • Final Phase Lunar-Charged DMG: reduced from 233.9% to 210.5%
  • Thunderous Symphony DMG: reduced from 140.3% to 128.6%
  • Thunderous Symphony Additional DMG: reduced from 210.5% to 187.1%

These reductions hit especially hard because Thunderous Symphony - a special variant of his Burst that interacts with the new Lunar-Charged elemental reaction from 5.8 - was expected to be his most efficient and frequently used ability.

It deals less damage than his regular Burst but consumes less Energy, allowing for faster rotations. Now, with the lowered multipliers, the trade-off may no longer be worthwhile, potentially discouraging use of both his Skill and special Burst in optimal rotations.

What the Beta Nerfs Mean for Flins

Leaked kits indicate Flins is designed as a main DPS, with Thunderous Symphony playing a central role in maximizing the Lunar-Charged reaction damage. The nerfs risk undermining that identity.

Players recall a similar situation with Cyno, another highly anticipated Electro DPS whose kit promised high damage potential but ultimately delivered underwhelming performance due to energy issues and team composition restrictions—problems that may now affect Flins as well.

While Flins' scaling still appears stronger than Cyno's, the adjustments cast doubt on whether he can deliver on the pre-release hype, especially for those eager to experiment with Lunar-Charged team compositions.

But there is still hope: these changes occurred in Beta Phase 2, and with further testing phases expected before release, there's potential for adjustments in either direction. HoYoverse has previously reverted beta nerfs based on testing feedback, though significant buffs are less common. Until then, many players are taking a wait-and-see approach, while others are doomposting (which is typical for any nerf-related leaks).

Why You Might Want to Save for 6.1 Instead

If Flins' viability is now uncertain, some may prefer to skip his banner entirely.

Lauma, described in leaks as a Dendro Lunar-Bloom enabler (a support role that enhances Dendro-Hydro reactions through the Lunar-Charged system), may offer strong synergy with Hydro characters like Aino, a 4-star Hydro sub-DPS who provides buffs specifically for Nod-Krai region allies.

However, Beta Phase 2 also included nerfs to Lauma's kit and the event weapon rumored to be her free-to-play option.

Beyond 6.0, HoYoverse has teased fan-favorite names like Durin, Columbina, and Varka for future updates. Durin—a confirmed Pyro character based on recent leaks—may arrive as early as Version 6.1, potentially alongside other powerful units.

For players chasing long-term value, holding Primogems for 6.1 or later could be the safer bet, especially given that later characters often benefit from lessons learned during earlier releases in a new region.
