Genshin Impact 6.0: Who Should You Pull For, Flin or Lauma?

With the release of Version 6.0 of Genshin Impact just around the corner, many players are excited to get their hands on the brand new 5-star characters from the brand new region of Nod-Krai that have been announced, Flin and Lauma. If you're torn between pulling for the gothy light keeper or the elegant deer girl, it's worth taking a closer look at what each character brings to the table besides just their aesthetic. Learning about their strengths, weaknesses, and how they fit into your team can help you spend your Primogems wisely.
Technically, we already got a taste of the region back in Version 5.8, when Ineffa became the first playable Nod-Krai character release. But the upcoming update will take us directly into the new land, opening up a fresh storyline, new characters, and even introducing the Moonsign system and its exciting Lunar reaction variations.
Flin & Lauma Are Confirmed 5-Star Characters
HoYoverse has confirmed that three Nod-Krai characters, Lauma, Flin, and Aino, will arrive in Version 6.0.
According to leaks, Lauma and Flin will both be 5-star units, while Aino will be a 4-star. Banner leaks suggest Lauma may appear in Phase 1 with a Nahida rerun, while Flin will headline Phase 2 with Yelan. Of course, the Genshin Impact 6.0 livestream will confirm these details soon, with the update itself scheduled for mid-September; as such, take this information with a grain of salt.
Pros & Cons of Pulling for Lauma

Pros: Lauma Unlocks a Brand New Reaction, Lunar-Bloom
Through the leaks, Lauma is rumored to be a 5-star Dendro catalyst user focusing on enabling the new reaction of Lunar-Bloom and dishing out AoE damage from her strong Dendro application capabilities.
Lunar-Bloom is a twist on the classic Bloom reaction that happens when Dendro and Hydro interact, except now they can crit. This reaction is also exclusively for teams that have Lauma in it, similar to how Ineffa enables the Lunar-Charged reaction. Her Elemental Skill lets her trigger Dendro AoE damage, and with Verdant Dew stacks, she can amplify her damage further while building up Moon Song stacks.
Her Burst ties everything together, boosting reaction damage across the party and scaling off her Elemental Mastery. On top of that, her passives enhance Lunar-Bloom even more, while her connection to the Moonsign mechanic gives your team extra crit stats depending on its current state.
If you've got Nilou gathering dust in your roster, Lauma could finally bring her back into the spotlight. And since leaks suggest a strong F2P Elemental Mastery catalyst will arrive in 6.0, building Lauma may not even require heavy investment. If you're curious about trying Lunar-Bloom for the first time, she's a strong candidate for your Primogems.
Cons: Her Kit is Very Niche
Similar to Nilou, Lauma suffers from the same issues that may plague players who want to pick her up just because of a new reaction.
Back in the Version 3.0 cycle until now, Nilou was the only unit that carried the bloom archetype on her back, because there were almost no other units released that benefited the playstyle. While she was a very strong contender for the meta during her prime, Nilou gradually dropped as the meta shifted from multi-targets to single boss in the endgame. There was also the issue of the lack of new teammates who could make the archetype interesting to play again.
Lauma will definitely solve the two biggest problems that the bloom archetype is facing because of the way her kit works, but there is no guarantee that it won't repeat as the landscape of the game continues to change.
Another issue that you may face when pulling for Lauma is that you may also need to pull for other premium units, such as Nahida, Kokomi, or Nilou, to fully maximize her potential. Along with this, her kit incentivizes you to play her only in said archetype, making her very limiting in terms of team options and synergies with units that aren't Hydro and Dendro.
Pros & Cons of Pulling for Flin

Pros: Flin Brings Electro DPS Power
Flin, on the other hand, is a 5-star Electro polearm DPS designed around Lunar-Charged reactions. Much like Ineffa, his kit revolves around enabling Lunar-Charged reactions. To get the most out of him, you'll want to focus on building up his ATK, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and some Elemental Mastery to boost his reaction damage and activate one of his passives.
Similar to how Clorinde plays, Flin's Skill infuses his Normal and Charged Attacks with Electro, letting him consistently trigger reactions when paired with Hydro teammates. This makes him a strong option if you're short on Electro damage-dealers and want someone who can reliably fill that role.
Cons: Teammate Reliant
The main reason you may consider not pulling for Flin is that he relies heavily on the other Lunar-Charged unit, Ineffa. While you may think that just because they both offer the same new reaction, you won't need to pull for Ineffa, your assumption could not be more incorrect.
Similar to previous character synergy situations, Flin's teams that don't have Ineffa suffer a tremendous DPS drop simply because the utilities that Ineffa provides for the team are so important, being able to fill the slot of a sustainer as well as a buffer. Having Ineffa on his team allows you to be much more flexible with his other two teammates.
Another thing that Flin suffers from, similar to Lauma, is the team archetype limitation. You can only play Flin in his intended team with at least one Hydro unit to make use of his full kit. Outside of this, if you want to play him in Overload or other reaction teams, you are out of luck since you'll be playing a weaker version of established DPS characters like Cyno.
Which Should You Choose?
Now that we've covered each character's strengths and weaknesses, let's break down which one might be the better fit for your account and playstyle.

Choose Lauma if:
- You enjoy reaction-based gameplay and want to try something completely new
- You already own Nilou, Nahida, or Kokomi and want to revitalize your Bloom teams
- You prefer supportive DPS characters who enable team-wide damage
- You're willing to invest in a potentially niche but powerful archetype
Choose Flin if:
- You need a strong Electro DPS and already own Ineffa
- You prefer straightforward hypercarry gameplay
- You have strong Hydro supports but lack Electro damage dealers
- You want a character with more familiar mechanics
Budget Considerations: If you're a low-spender or F2P player, Lauma might be the safer choice since she reportedly works well with free-to-play weapons and doesn't require as many premium teammates to function. However, if you don't own Ineffa, Flin becomes significantly less appealing due to their synergy requirements.
The Bottom Line
Both characters offer unique gameplay experiences tied to the new Lunar reaction system, but they cater to different player preferences. Lauma brings innovation to an existing archetype and may have broader team-building flexibility in the long run. Flin offers more straightforward DPS gameplay but requires specific team compositions to truly shine.
Consider your current roster, playstyle preferences, and Primogem budget before making your decision. Remember that both characters will likely receive reruns, so you don't have to choose immediately if you're unsure.
