The Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Theme Chronicle Event Is Back! What Decks Should You Run With?

In an unusual twist, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’s next event after the Synchro Cup is a rerun of the Theme Chronicle event. It’s unusual because Theme Chronicle reruns only occurred during January before today, with the last one ending on January 28, 2025.
Participate in the event and get all the rewards, which include:
- 950x Gems
- 10x Legacy Pack Tickets
- R-Genex Turing - a new Mate’s Base skin
- Bushido - a new display Title
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Theme Chronicle event lasts from August 18 - 28, that’s 10 days for duelists to climb the ladder and earn 11,000 medals to claim all the rewards!
What Is The Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Theme Chronicle Event?

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’s Theme Chronicle is an event that prioritizes archetypes featured in Solo Mode. That means that a lot of staples like Maxx C and Called by the Grave are going to be banned since they’re super powerful cards that don’t belong to any of the Story Mode archetypes.
If you haven’t played the Solo Mode much yet, all the decks there don’t really have a place in the meta, so duelists will be forced to use their imagination to use strategies outside the regular ranked decks.
The Current Top Decks In The Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Theme Chronicle Event

As always with Master Duel Events, you can pick a deck from the pre-made loaner decks. They’re going to be playable, but they’re not going to be top tier decks. You can check Master Duel Meta to see which decks are doing good in the event. Though, unlike their Tier List, these decks aren’t going to be ranked from best to worst. They’re simply the decks that duelists have recorded to have gained a 5+ winstreak in the event.
Here are some of the best ones:
- Invoked Shaddoll - Shaddoll is one of the few viable decks in ranked that’s still viable in Theme Chronicle. It currently isn’t tiered, but it used to be, and it’s still considered a decent rogue deck today.
It uses Fusion monsters to control the field with negates, special summon limiters, and destruction effects. It’s very effective against decks that constantly use special summons, which is 90% of the decks in the game. - Six Samurai - One of the most versatile Synchro decks in Solo Mode, Six Samurai spams the field with level 1-4 Monsters, including Tuners, to consistently bust out powerful Six Samurai Synchros. Players have also been using Naturia Synchros with them to completely shut down the enemy and take the win.
Also, from playing in the Theme Chronicle for a few hours, I can confidently say that a good majority of players are running some form of Six Samurai deck. To counter pure Six Samurai, try to use Spell/Trap destruction effects like Raigeki or Dark Hole. Without Naturia on the board, their only main counter for destruction Spells/Traps is Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En, which they usually don’t get out in the first turn. - Sky Strikers - Similar to Shaddolls, Sky Strikers are another rogue deck that remains mostly untouched in the event. They juggle their Link Monsters while trying to keep Main Monster Zones empty to allow their powerful Spellcard effects to trigger.
