Hero Wars Talismans: Full Guide

In Hero Wars, one of the final things you can do to make your heroes even stronger is to obtain and upgrade Talismans. If you’re a relatively new player, you might’ve never even heard of Talismans, and that’s perfectly understandable, as they can only be accessed once one of your Heroes reaches level 120. So, what exactly are Hero Wars Talismans, and how do they work?
What Are Talismans in Hero Wars?
Talismans are late-game equippable and upgradeable items for your heroes. Each hero can only access their Talismans and their effects after they reach level 120. So, as you can imagine, only those who have invested hundreds of hours (free-to-play) or spent a ton of money on the game can even use them.
What they do is they buff your hero’s stats. The higher a Talisman’s level, the bigger its buffs are, and it’ll also gain secondary stat buffs along the way.
Most heroes have two Talismans unique to them; however, only one of them can be equipped at a time. At first, all heroes only had one unique Talisman, but Nexters (Hero Wars’ devs) eventually started giving heroes a second Talisman. The newer heroes still only have one Talisman, but don’t worry, they’ll get their second Talisman in future updates.
As of the time of writing this article, these are the heroes that currently only have one Talisman:
- Guus
- Lara Croft
- Ninja Turtles
- Peech
- Polaris
- Somna
- Tempus
You can view and upgrade your Talismans by going to the heroes screen, selecting a hero, and tapping on the “Talisman” button. You’ll notice that the Talisman button is where the “Level Up?” button used to be. Level 120 is the maximum level for heroes, so once they unlock their Talismans, there’s no longer any need to level them up.
How Hero Wars Talisman Stat Buffs Work

Each Talisman has one main stat buff and three secondary stat buffs, which can be replaced with rerolls. The secondary stat buffs will unlock one by one when a Talisman reaches level 10, 20, and 50, respectively.
For example, one of Aurora’s Talismans is called the Talisman of Research. Its main stat buff is Strength. Once you obtain it, you can equip it to a level 120 Aurora and immediately gain the Strength stat buff. After you upgrade the Talisman of Research to level 10, it will automatically unlock a secondary stat buff. If you don’t like the values of the Talisman’s secondary stat buffs, you can choose to reroll them.
You’ll learn how to level up and reroll stats in the “How To Upgrade Talismans” section below.
How To Obtain Talismans

Unfortunately, Talismans can only currently be purchased or earned during certain recurring events. You can obtain Talismans for your heroes even when they haven’t reached level 120 yet; they’ll just stay in your inventory until your heroes are ready for them. It’s highly advisable to get as many Talismans as you can during these events even when you’re not close to level 120 yet. They’re one of the rarest and most valuable equipment for endgame content and for countering top heroes/teams. So, you might regret not getting them earlier.

There are currently two ways to improve Talismans, each of them requiring a different resource. The first is to upgrade Talismans using Mastery Crystals. This method is how you level up your Talismans. Every time you level up your Talisman, its main and sub-stat buffs increase.
Mastery Crystals are extremely rare since you can pretty much only obtain them from events. There are occasionally Talisman-related events that give a ton of Mastery Crystals if you accomplish the required tasks. However, even regular events can have them as rewards; just don’t expect to get as much.

Meta Cubes are used to reroll a Talisman’s buff stat values. Basically, if you’re not satisfied with a Talisman’s secondary stat buffs, you can replace them with a set of other values. The image above shows how you can:
- (1) Spend Meta Cubes to reroll
- (2)Save your rerolled stats if you liked them
- (3) Choose to stick with your original stat values by leaving the screen
Like Mastery Crystals, you can obtain Meta Cubes from events. Additionally, you can also get some from the Sky Arena game mode accessible from your Guild.
If you’re out of Meta Cubes, you can also use Emeralds to reroll Talisman stats. Even if you’re a free-to-play player, by the time you get to the point of using Talismans, there’s not going to be much left to spend your Emeralds on, so considering using them for rerolls is definitely an option.
Common Mistakes Players Make with Talismans
Don’t make these mistakes when trying to farm, upgrade, or equip your Hero Wars Talismans.
- Be sure to pick the Talisman that matches your hero’s build. Oftentimes, each of the two Talismans a hero can have will focus on specific builds. For example, Dante’s Talisman of Soul boosts his agility, making him dodge better, and is more suited for a defensively built Dante. On the other hand, his Talisman of Retaliation buffs his physical attack, which is more suited for a more aggressive Dante build when your team already has decent defense.
- When receiving Mastery Chests, always pick Mastery Crystals over Rune Stones. Mastery Crystals are way rarer and will allow you to level up your Talismans.
- Don’t try to upgrade every Talisman you own; only the ones you really need. Unless you pay, you’re never going to get enough Mastery Crystals and Meta Cubes. Spend them wisely by only using them on Talismans of your favorite or most-used heroes.
Final Thoughts — Should You Invest Heavily in Talismans?
Considering you’ve reached the point where your heroes have made it to the highest possible level, then you’re probably deeply invested in Hero Wars. If you’re still playing it daily at that point, then yes, Talismans are worth it since they’re the last way to push your heroes to the very peak of their power.
