Zenless Zone Zero Releases Seed’s Animated Short Film and Character Demo
As Zenless Zone Zero version 2.2 draws ever closer, more and more details about Seed, and by extension, Seed Sr., are coming out. Specifically, Seed’s animated short film and character demo are finally out. They showed fans a lot about her history, motivations, and fighting style. Here’s what they revealed specifically.
Seed’s Animated Short Film: Love, Death & Constructs
Love, Death & Constructs tells the incredibly touching story behind Seed and Seed Sr.’s history. Seed Sr. has been kind of a mystery when Seed was first announced. People weren’t sure whether the giant sentinel by Seed’s side was going to just be a mech she rides or a separate character who would be her partner or subordinate. As it turns out, the answer is: Yes.
The film revealed that Seed Sr. is, or perhaps was, an intelligent construct. What we know about intelligent constructs in ZZZ is that they’re sentient machines that, unlike Bangboo, have true free will and are even considered legal citizens in New Eridu. The only other intelligent constructs we have as Agents are Billy Kid and Qingyi, so maybe Seed Sr.’s story can shed some more light on them.
For now though, Seed Sr. seems to be “gone”. He started experiencing longer and longer blackouts after saving Seed from the Hollow, and is now seemingly permanently unconscious. The blackouts were caused when something inside him broke when he disobeyed his programming, which is probably where he started gaining true sentience.
Love, Death & Constructs also shows why Seed is so socially awkward. Something about her time in the Hollows altered her psyche. Seed Sr. worked hard on teaching her what it means to be human, and is successful for the most part, but it seems she still has some quirks that remain.
Another major reveal is Seed’s real name. At the end of the animation, Seed Sr. calls her “Flora”, though whether that’s her name even before Seed Sr. met her or if he gave it to her himself is yet to be revealed.
Seed’s Character Demo: White Scooter Demon
If Love, Death & Constructs is a touching, more grounded look at Seed’s Character, White Scooter Demon is a pure action, adrenaline-fueled view of how scary and badass a girl riding a scooter can be.
There’s really not much story going on here. A group of Thugs stole military hardware, and Seed is there to reclaim it. And she does.
As usual, Zenless Zone Zero flexes their 3D animation skills with this character demo. It’s beautifully animated, with Seed fighting both inside and outside Seed Sr. It also shows that even though Seed Sr.'s consciousness is asleep, he can still somewhat move “on his own”, so he must have some program running him.
What Else Can You Expect From Seed Before Her Release?
In the Zenless Zone Zero 2.2 Special Program, they actually announced three incoming videos for Seed. The animated short film and the character demos are out, and the character teaser, called “Light Reflects No War”, should be coming any day now.
ZZZ’s character teasers usually have simpler 2D animations that focus on either the Agent’s daily lives or their past. Their vibes can be a really mixed bag. They can be lighthearted and funny, like with Alice and Yixuan, or they can be dark and heavy, like with Trigger and Soldier 0 Anby. So, who knows how Seed’s will go?
Unfortunately, no EP was announced for Seed, but that’s something that not everyone gets anyway.
