Let’s be honest: at least once in our lives, we’ve all dreamed of getting free money without lifting a finger (unless, of course, you’re Elon Musk’s kid and already have a trust fund waiting).

While most of us snap back to reality, sites like Mistplay keep that dream alive by promising to pay you for doing something you’d probably do anyway: playing games on your phone.

According to Statista, the global video gaming market generated $447.3 Billion in 2024 and is expected to cross $870 Billion by 2030.

With huge numbers like these, it's a no-brainer why apps like Mistplay are gaining traction.

But is Mistplay legit and does it actually deliver on its promise? This is exactly what we’ll find out in this blog.

We’ll answer the burning question: Is Mistplay legit, and explore its features to determine what earning opportunities it provides.

Bonus: At the end of the article, I’ll also tell you about a great Mistplay alternative, Scrambly.

Check out Scrambly

So, let’s start with an understanding of the platform and how it works.

What is Mistplay?

Mistplay is an Android-only get-paid-to app where users play different games and earn real cash rewards or gift cards.

The app features more than four hundred gaming apps. You download those gaming apps from within the Mistplay app and launch them from there, too.

Mistplay then rewards you “units”—Mistplay’s virtual points—by tracking your in-game activity and time spent.

However, since the app is available only on Google Play, iOS users and those wanting to play Mistplay on desktop, are out of luck, for now at least.

But even for Android users, is Mistplay worth it? We’ll get into that later. For now, let’s address the elephant in the room: is Mistplay Legit?

Is Mistplay Legit?

Yes, the Mistplay app is a legitimate get-paid-to platform that actually rewards its users for playing games featured on the platform.

The app has over 10 million downloads on Google Play and 766K reviews, most of which confirm having successfully cashed out their rewards.

At the same time, there’s been an influx of negative reviews lately from angry users. You’ll find more details on that later in this article in the “Mistplay Reviews” section.

Despite these concerns, the company’s detailed information on Crunchbase and Mistplay’s official website further supports its legitimacy.

According to the company profile, Mistplay launched in 2016 and is headquartered in Montréal, Canada.

So, with all the evidence, it’s safe to say that Mistplay is at least legitimate. About whether it’s worth your time or not, the next two sections can help you decide that.

Mistplay Features: Things You Can Expect

Having set aside your “Is Mistplay Legit” speculation, let me now introduce you to how things work within Mistplay.

Games

Mistplay’s About Us page, puts the games count above 400.

This collection of gaming apps encompasses nearly all genres, such as puzzle, casino, strategy, action, castle-builder, and more.

You might already be playing a game that Mistplay offers, albeit without earning any rewards.

While playing a game via Mistplay, you’ll get notifications every 10-15 minutes informing you about your earning progress.

If notifications aren’t appearing, you might have to restart the game from Mistplay’s apps wall.

Reward System

By playing downloaded games via the Mistplay app, you earn virtual points called units. How many units you earn depends on your playtime and your in-game activity.

Once you have earned enough units, you can redeem them for free gift cards or cash rewards.

The units-to-dollar ($) conversion rate depends on the value of the redemption.

Withdrawing a small reward worth, let's say $5, would require more units than withdrawing bigger rewards.

But the difference won’t be big enough to matter that much.

Aside from units, there are other reward types like Game Experience Points (GXP), Player Experience Points (PXP), and Loyalty Gems.

However, they don’t have any financial value. Only units can be exchanged for real-life rewards.

Furthermore, Mistplay’s reward system has some unusual restrictions, which we don’t find in other apps like Mistplay, such as Cash Giraffe.

For example, when you have played a game for two hours or so, you stop earning rewards from it until the next day.

Similarly, when you have reached level 20 in a game, you stop earning units through it.

This might be a move by Mistplay to force users to try more apps instead of sticking to the same games.

Payout Options

Mistplay lets you redeem units for either gift cards or cash.

You can get gift cards from retailers like Amazon, Spotify, Walmart, and Google Play, to name a few.

The minimum payout threshold for gift cards is $5, meaning you’ll need $5 worth of units.

As for cash redemption, Mistplay added PayPal as its only cash option not so long ago. The minimum payout threshold for earning PayPal cash is $10 worth of units.

But the real question is how long does it take Mistplay to pay out rewards? Well, the time can vary based on a case-to-case basis.

Still, you can expect the gift card reception email in 2 days.

The PayPal cash can also show up in your account within 2 days.

But again, delays can be a normal thing, too.

Where is Mistplay Available?

Mistplay provides no official list of countries where it’s available. The official website’s FAQ section only answers where its referral program is currently available.

But we can still deduce some of the countries where Mistplay is available by looking at public information. For example, Mistplay’s website is available in languages including:

  • English
  • French
  • Korean
  • German
  • Chinese
  • Japanese

This shows that the Mistplay app might be available in the US, UK, France, South Korea, Germany, China, and Japan.

In addition, some accounts report Mistplay’s availability in the following countries too:

  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • Finland
  • Singapore

However, this might not be the full list. It may or may not be available in more countries.

Moreover, the team at Mistplay can make changes to its availability at any time.

Therefore, check the app for the latest information about Mistplay’s availability in your country.

What Ages Can Use Mistplay?

While Mistpay is available in a good number of countries, not everyone there can sign up on the app.

Mistplay doesn’t allow registrations from individuals younger than 18.

So, if you’re under 18 and considering Mistplay as a potential weekend side hustle, you’re out of luck sadly.

However, it may still be possible to get an adult to make an account for you.

Mistplay Reviews & Ratings

While we’ve answered the question “Is Mistplay legit?” in the beginning, skimming through Mistplay reviews can give us first-hand information about the app.

As you read earlier, the Mistplay app is available for Android users through Google Play only.

The app there has a 3.8-star rating with 766K reviews. The rating is a little on the lower side compared to Mistplay alternatives like Scrambly (4.5-star).

Mistplay’s listing on Trustpilot also reflects a similar rating (3.9-star, ~2.5K reviews).

It seems like the app saw a dramatic drop in rating scores recently, as Mistplay review articles from a few months back have reported ratings of around 4.5 stars on both Google Play and Trustpilot.

When I went through user reviews, most seemed to be angry about having their account blocked or put on hold for no good reason.

Here’s a Mistplay review on Trustpilot from last month complaining about the account ban.

Another prevalent user concern was payout delays longer than the advertised time of 48 hours.

However, around 71% of reviews are 4-star and above so focusing just on the 3-star and lower rating won’t be fair.

Many users have left positive reviews about Mistplay. They have had a good experience and have received their payouts on time.
