Against a white background, to the right from top down is a neon game controller, five video game hearts, and a pixelated diamond. To the right is the Scrambly icon and, in black, is the title text: "The 40 best mobile games for couples by genre 2025".

Want to have a nice, chill gaming session with your significant other, but one or both of you don’t have a PC or gaming console to hop on to? Well, luckily for you, it’s 2025 and mobile games have never been bigger. Down below, you’ll find the best mobile games for couples available today.

All you two need are your own smartphones. Sometimes not even that! Some of these games only need one phone between the two of you and don’t even need an internet connection to play.

Since there are so many possible games that couples can enjoy, let’s try to dissect them by genre. Of course, not every genre of game screams romance, so the only ones that are included here are the ones that are more likely than not to give couples a good time.

10 Best Co-op/PvE Mobile Games for Couples

Co-op or people vs environment (PvE) is possibly the best genre of games for couples, even when one of you isn’t super into gaming. When one of you is struggling, the other one can help out and make the overall experience more fun and relaxing.

Since you’re not competing with each other or other people, these games don’t require a ton of skill (most of the time) and are built more around the experience of exploration and spending time with your partner.

1. Minecraft (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on version, platform, and region)

Showing Steve and Alex going on an adventure in Minecraft.

Whether you’re a long-time gamer or haven’t even touched a video game in years, you’ve probably heard of Minecraft. Known for its incredibly open game design that encourages exploration and creativity, there’s something in Minecraft for everyone.

This is a game you can play with your partner for hundreds of hours and never get tired of. Whether it’s to beat the Ender Dragon, create your own cozy house, or raise a fully-functioning farm, you can set whatever goals you want and create your own story.

Writer's comment:

Minecraft is a game that each player enjoys differently. I personally enjoyed Minecraft's building aspect more than the exploration and combat aspects. You might think differently. So go ahead and experience it for yourself with your partner and find what makes it special for you personally.

2. Terraria (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

Showing the player in knight armor holding a torch and pickaxe standing behind the Terraria logo.

At face value, Terraria might just seem like a 2D side-scroller platformer version of Minecraft, but it’s so much more than that. While Minecraft may focus more on building your dream world, think of Terraria more like an RPG. All the resources and equipment you collect in Terraria are meant to eventually lead you to fighting epic bosses and sprawling dungeons. So, if you and your significant other want a more challenging PvE experience, try out Terraria.

Writer's comment:

Side scrollers are mostly known for their simplicity, so one that’s as deep and detailed as Terraria is truly a rare find. There’s so much to do and find that you sometimes almost forget you’re only exploring in two dimensions.

3. Stardew Valley (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

Showing your home and farm/garden in Stardew Valley.

If you just want to kick back and relax with your partner after a long day of school or work, there’s really no other mobile game for couples that does the job better than Stardew Valley. Fishing, interacting with villagers, getting ready for the next festival, most of the game’s features are designed to help you wind down and cozy up.

The only issue with the Stardew Valley mobile co-op experience is that it’s still an experimental feature, so you might encounter some bugs that you normally wouldn’t in single-player. The feature itself is even hidden right now. You have to follow these steps to connect with your partner.

Writer's comment:

Highly addictive and super easy to get into. Whenever you feel down, just boot this game up and you’re almost guaranteed to feel at least slightly better than before. Everything in the game is just made to make you forget about your worries and think it’s not the end of the world. There’s a reason why so many games these days still try to imitate the relaxing farming game trope.

4. Bloons TD6 (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

Showing several of the Hero and Normal Monkeys in Bloons TD6 surrounded by Bloons of all types.

Here’s something a little different. Tower defense games haven’t been super popular lately, but the biggest one, Bloons TD6, is still going strong and even has a surprisingly fun co-op mode.

You and your partner (plus potentially two more friends, because you can have four people playing at the same time) will have designated zones in the map where you can each place your monkeys. Co-op mode even has a feature where you can give each other bananas if one of you is short on cash. It can and will probably get really chaotic, but if you’re into that sort of thing, no judgment here.

Writer's comment:

I played this with my younger brother a lot, and despite it obviously being meant for a younger audience, it’s definitely enjoyable for people of all ages. It may just be the best tower-defense game I’ve ever played, period.

5. The Sims Mobile (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Showing several Sims from The Sims Mobile posing for a photo and having a good time

The Sims is one of the most iconic life simulator games out there, and this version of the game has been on mobile phones since 2018. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, you create your own characters (Sims) and basically live out their entire lives however you want. The Sims has an incredibly wide variety of choices and activities that you can make your Sim do.

The “co-op” part of this game is a little different from the other ones on this list because you’re not necessarily going to be playing at the same time as your partner. You can interact with their Sims anytime you want once you’ve added them as a friend in the game, and you can even invite them to move into your Sims’ home. Your loved one’s Sims will be more like something to remind you of them while playing, and your Sims can also remind your partner of you.

Writer's comment:

I’ve played tons of Sims games back in the day, so it’s nice to have an option that I can play wherever I want. The Sims mobile is not as detailed as other Sims games, but it’s got the iconic silly and cheerful vibe of Sims games down pat.

6. Warframe (iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free To Play

Showing the Warframes Excalibur, Baruuk, and Mesa jumping out of a smartphone to indicate that Warframe is now on iOS phones.

Despite only arriving on iOS phones slightly more than a year ago, Warframe is already one of the most content-packed mobile games on the market. Warframe is a hack-and-slash shooter game with incredible mobility mechanics.

You can play with your partner to farm for whatever Warframe or weapon you want, and go on missions across the entire solar system. Admittedly, the endgame and meta content can be a little sweaty, but it is completely unnecessary to enjoy the game. You and your partner can cruise through the majority of the game with any half-decent build and have a good time while doing it.

While Warframe is currently only available on iOS phones, its developers are planning on launching it on Android eventually, so keep your eyes peeled for it.

Writer's comment:

Warframe is my most-played game on Steam, so to have the option to play it on mobile is amazing. There is SO much to do in this game that I could never do it justice in this short segment. It can be confusing at the start, but keep at it and you’ll find yourself unable to stop. Just don’t forget about your partner.

7. Genshin Impact (iOS, PC, PS, Xbox) - Free To Play

Showing a group of colorful Genshin Impact characters all posing in different ways that showcase their abilities and characteristics.

Out of the plethora of gacha games that have come out in recent years, Genshin Impact still stands atop all of them in terms of popularity. Explore the massive and fantastic world of Teyvat with any of the 100+ playable characters, assuming you can get the ones you want, of course.

While Genshin Impact is, for the most part, a single-player game, it does have some co-op modes where you can replay story chapters, explore the overworld, and accept Domain challenges. If you and your partner are alright with gacha mechanics, then Genshin might be the game for you.

Writer's comment:

As long as you can control your urges to spend money on characters, Genshin Impact can be a great game experience. Hey, at least your partner’s there to keep a watch on you.

8. Human: Fall Flat (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

A group of Human Fall Flat players struggling to climb up the cliff while one of them has already succeeded and is celebrating.

One of the sillier options on this list, Human: Fall Flat is a puzzle platformer with goofy ragdoll and physics-based gameplay. You and your partner must try to get through levels by solving puzzles, like obstacle courses and mazes. You can interact with objects by pushing, pulling, and lifting them, and you can do all these to your partner as well, often resulting in hilarious situations.

You and your partner can play with two other players, which will make the courses easier, but they’re all totally doable with just the two of you. They can even be accomplished with just one player if you’re determined enough.

Writer's comment:

The ragdoll mechanics combined with you and your friends messing around in this game is bound to produce tons of laughs and smiles. It’s not a game that you really take seriously, which is a pretty good quality to have when looking for mobile games for couples.

9. BADLAND (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free To Play on Android & Windows, Paid on other platforms

Several of the creatures from BADLAND trying to get past the gear-like obstacles.

A classic from 2013, BADLAND is a side-scroller adventure game where you control a circular bat-like creature and try to get through levels with various obstacles by flapping your wings to control your direction. Think Flappy Bird, but with more obstacles and beautiful stylistic art.

And yes, BADLAND has a co-op mode of up to four players. Team up with your significant other to get past the levels while trying to keep from bumping into each other and causing the other to fail. Fortunately, if one of you dies, you can be revived by collecting certain shiny orbs throughout the level, so neither of you is going to feel left out for long.

Writer's comment:

Really simple, yet oddly addictive. BADLANDS is a game that you just play in short bursts and can put down at any time without feeling unfulfilled.

10. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

A bomb from Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes with various modules and a timer.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a super unique bomb-defusing game that requires two players. One person handles the manual but cannot see the bomb, while the other can only see the bomb and must describe what they’re seeing to the other person. The two must cohesively share information with each other to successfully diffuse the bomb.

This game is paid, but technically, you only need one copy. The manual can be obtained and viewed on a second device for free. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes will test your and your partner’s ability to communicate properly. It can be incredibly stressful, but in a fun way. It won’t ruin your relationship… probably.

Writer's comment:

Reading comprehension is key here, as long as you’re confident in your abilities to communicate and describe things, you’ll do well in Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. But even if you keep blowing your partner up, the experience is still going to be pretty worth it because of the laughs you two will get from it.

10 Best Competitive/PvP Mobile Games for Couples

Challenging your partner in a gaming session might not be for everyone, but it can be pretty fun if both of you are competitive types. Try to ensure that they enjoy competitive games first though. It’s not exactly the best feeling in the world if the session just turns into a watch-myself-lose party.

Some of these games will pit you two against each other, while others will have you two face off against other players. See which games would best fit your relationship.

11. Mario Kart Tour (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Mario and Peach in an intense race in Mario Kart Tour.

If you won’t feel bad about leaving your partner to eat your dust (or vice versa), then you should try Mario Kart Tour. Mario Kart is pretty much a household name these days, so you probably have at least a vague idea of what this game is. There is a slight difference though, in that Mario Kart Tour is focused more on earning points than taking 1st place in a race.

The game features simplified controls with acceleration and jump boosts being performed automatically. So it’s not as competitive as mainline Mario Kart games, but is still enough to get you and your partner pumped up to win.

Writer's comment:

It was definitely weird at first to be playing Mario Kart on my phone, but you get used to it eventually, and it turned out to be pretty fun and surprisingly well-optimized for smartphones. As mentioned above, the controls are simplified, but it’s probably for the better to allow people with low-end smartphones to keep up.

12. Pokémon TCG Pocket (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Someone playing Pokémon TCG Pocket and ripping open packs to get new cards.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is a gacha-fied version of the card game where you can spend in-game resources to pull from packs, obtain cards, arrange your decks, and fight the AI or other players with it.

If you and your partner are already fans of Pokémon TCG, then you would probably enjoy a way to play it wherever you are. But even if you aren’t already fans of the card game, it’s still a fun and quick way to kill time with them.

Writer's comment:

Pokémon TCG Pocket is actually my first foray into Pokémon TCG in general, and I found it enjoyable while being very easy to learn. Now, I heard that this game is actually a simplified version of the actual TCG game, which I have no experience with. So I, unfortunately, can’t tell you how much better or worse it is than regular Pokémon TCG, but from my time playing, it was pretty good.

13. Among Us (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

A group of crewmates and a hidden impostor in Among Us.

You’d have to travel far and wide to find someone who’s never heard of Among Us. As a crewmate, do all the tasks assigned to you, and as an impostor, try to kill all the crewmates without them finding out you’re the impostor.

Playing this with your partner and some other friends is probably going to be one of the few moments where it’s justified to lie to them, so make of that what you will.

Writer's comment:

This might be a game on this list where I’d really urge you to find more friends to join you and your partner. Among Us is just way more fun when playing with people you know rather than randoms online.

14. Call of Duty Mobile (Android, iOS, PC) - Free to Play

A group of soldiers posing behind the Call of Duty Mobile logo

Of course, we can’t talk about competitive gaming and not discuss shooters, and we can’t talk about shooter games without discussing Call of Duty. Whether you’re into traditional COD multiplayer or battle royale, Call of Duty Mobile has what you need. The only thing missing from COD Mobile is a campaign mode, but that doesn’t really matter when you just want to have a fun time with your partner.

There’s really not much else to say about this. If you and your partner like FPS games, and don’t have a PC or console, then you’ll probably enjoy COD Mobile.

Writer's comment:

Competitive FPS isn’t for everyone, so try to gauge your partner’s reaction and maybe shift to more casual private lobbies with friends if it seems like they’re not having the best time. COD Mobile is pretty standard; if you’ve played FPS games in the past, you know what to expect here, so you can also use your experiences to judge whether it’s something you two will enjoy.

15. Fortnite (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free to Play

A phone screen showing Fortnite characters and several objects that reference features, past events, and skins in the game.

Another incredibly popular shooter game, Fortnite, is the hottest name in the industry when it comes to battle royales. Get ready to jump from the battle bus and start collecting, building, and blasting as soon as you hit the ground. You can choose the Duos game mode to play with your partner or Squads if you have some other friends who want to join in.

If you’re somehow not familiar with Fortnite, don’t let the cartoon-y art style fool you; it’s one of the sweatiest games in the competitive space. So, if you plan on dropping in with your partner, just know that it’s going to take some time before you get the hang of it if you don’t usually play shooters.

Writer's comment:

If you and your partner are looking for a truly competitive shooter experience on mobile, then Fortnite is a great pick.

One thing you should consider before getting on Fortnite though: it’s kinda inconvenient getting it on smartphones. It isn’t available in the usual app stores. Instead, you have to first download the Epic Games Store on your phone before being able to download Fortnite. A massive inconvenience, but it is what it is.

16. Fall Guys (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free to Play

A character from Fall Guys giving a presentation about the game finally coming to smartphone devices.

Compete with your significant other in colorful obstacle courses and challenges, and see which of you can get to the end. You won’t be alone though, as a maximum of 40 other players will be joining you, trying to get to the goal and kick you out of the game. Despite being competitive, Fall Guys is still a very bright and cheerful game that will give you good vibes all around as long as you’re not too much of a sore loser.

If you don’t feel like competing against your partner, Fall Guys also has duos and squads game modes where you can play with 1 or 3 other players.

Writer's comment:

Once again, one massive issue with the game is that you have to go through the Epic Games Store to get it. If you don’t want to go through the hassle, you can also try Stumble Guys, which is a similar game, but with simpler graphics and controls.

It’s such a shame because Fall Guys is a really fun game otherwise.

17. Pokémon Unite (Android, iOS, Nintendo) - Free to Play

Several Pokémon, including Pikachu, Cinderace, Mr. Mime, Greninja, and Gengar reaching for a soaring golden ring.

When it comes to multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs), there are undoubtedly more popular choices, like League of Legends: Wild Rift or Mobile Legends, but those can get really toxic really fast. If you and your partner are alright with how other players in those games can be, then go ahead.

However, Pokémon Unite is designed for more casual players with its simpler mechanics and quicker matches. It’s just the right balance of being competitive while not driving its players to the brink of insanity.

Writer's comment:

Admittedly, MOBAs aren’t really my cup of tea. But since Pokémon Unite is so much more casual and beginner-friendly, even I can enjoy it. I think it’s the best one to introduce to your significant other if neither of you is super familiar with the genre.

18. Brawlhalla (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free to Play

Several of Brawlhalla’s featured heroes all posing around the game’s logo.

Smash Bros is one of, if not the most popular, fighting games ever, but of course, the franchise is only playable on Nintendo consoles. If you and your partner are seeking an alternative on mobile, then look no further than Brawlhalla. It’s a platform fighting game that can support up to eight players in a single match.

What makes it great for couples is that it can satisfy the needs of both hyper-competitive and more casual players. You and your partner can play in ranked for a more serious and competitive experience, or simply challenge each other in private lobbies for more relaxed sessions.

Writer's comment:

I’ve only played Smash Bros. when I was a kid, so I can’t really compare it to Brawlhalla. But it probably won’t get any better than Brawlhalla when it comes to platform fighting games on mobile. The polish when it comes to movement and attacks is not bad at all.

19. Brawl Stars (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Showing a smartphone featuring a Brawl Stars Heist match with the blue team attacking the red team’s vault.

Brawl Stars is a MOBA hero shooter with tons of unique heroes to support any game style you or your partner may have. Unlike most mainstream MOBAs, the goal of Brawl Stars is not just to conquer an enemy base, but to accomplish certain tasks depending on the game mode you’re playing.

In Showdown and Bounty, the goal is to eliminate all other players; in Heist, you must destroy the enemy safely; in Gem Grab, you have to collect gems faster than anyone else. Some of these game modes even allow you to team up with your partner, giving you the chance to assist each other and show them you care (aww).

Writer's comment:

As I mentioned, MOBAs aren’t really my thing unless they’re fun even when played casually. I’m pleased to say Brawl Stars fits the bill.

20. Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free to Play

A battle between two popular monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!: Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician.

Now, admittedly, this won’t be a game for all couples. Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel can be incredibly competitive to the point where the other player is essentially just watching you play, stack, and toss cards for 10 minutes straight. If you two are fans of the TCG, then you probably already know this and are ready to start dueling.

But for couples who aren’t as familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh!, you can just face off against each other in private rooms using more casual decks. Or perhaps you’re fans of the anime but haven’t really gotten into the card game, then playing it easy and casually is probably the way to go.

Writer's comment:

Master Duel is the card game I’ve sunk the most hours in, and I both love and hate it. Seeing decks that combo off for 10 hours straight or just straight up floodgate you and stop you from doing anything is horrible. But when things all start to click and your deck works the way you want it to, there’s just no better feeling.

10 Best Mobile Party Games for Couples

Party Games focus more on the social aspect of the game rather than detailed gameplay or stories. Their gameplay is often simpler, allowing you to interact more with the people you’re playing with rather than focus solely on the game, making them perfect mobile games for couples.

Since some of these games are traditional board or card games converted into mobile apps, you or your partner may already be familiar with them. They’ll also appeal to a lot of non-video gamers who like tabletop games.

21. UNO! (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

A poster advertising the official UNO! app by Mattel.

Uno doesn’t really need an introduction. It isn’t just a fun game for couples; it’s fun no matter who you’re playing with. Just in case though, you play the game by playing a card that’s either the same number or the same color as the previously played card. Special cards with effects that can affect the game are also in play. The goal of the game is to have all the cards in your hand played before anyone else.

Playing on a digital platform also means that rules are standardized, so no one can just blurt out house rules that only they play with, which could be both a blessing and a curse. Make sure you, your partner, and anyone else you’re playing with are clear on the rules to avoid sudden mishaps or breakups.

Writer's comment:

I mean, it’s Uno. What else is there to say? I’m glad it’s free to play, unlike Ubisoft’s Uno on PC, so that’s pretty good. But gameplay-wise, it’s Uno. Simple and fun.

22. Gartic Phone (Browser) - Free to Play

Showing the Gartic Phone logo surrounded by a pencil, notepad, speech bubble, and telephone.

You and your partner either have good drawing skills or are going to bust your guts laughing with Gartic Phone. There are different game modes, but generally speaking, Gartic Phone either provides you with an image or a prompt, and your task will depend on what you get. You either describe the image you got, and it becomes a prompt for the next player, or you draw the prompt you got, and your drawing gets sent to the next player.

For such a simple concept, the game can be ridiculously fun and will give you and your partner something to laugh about for the rest of the day.

Writer's comment:

Right off the bat, I have no talent in drawing unless I’m copying something. But I’d argue that it actually makes Gartic Phone much more enjoyable. Drawing something stupid and leaving the next player scratching their head at what monstrosity you just created is just dumb fun.

23. Scrabble Go (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Showing a smartphone with a Scrabble Go match playing with words like “super” and “player” already formed.

Scrabble Go is Scopely’s take on the classic board game. It’s not just regular Scrabble on your smartphone though. Scrabble Go introduces new features like boosts and differently sized boards to spice up the game.

Additionally, if you and your partner just want to play regular Scrabble, Scrabble Go offers that as well with its classic game mode.

Writer's comment:

I enjoy the occasional game of Scrabble, so this app suits me just fine. If you and your partner are both confident with your vocabularies, then Scrabble GO will be the ultimate to see which one’s better. It’s very similar to just normal Scrabble, so if the board game is your thing, then you’ll most likely like this as well.

24. BombSquad (Android, PC, Partially on iOS) - Free to Play

Footage of BombSquad gameplay with several players blowing each other up with explosives

BombSquad is an arcade game where you play as a character that tosses bombs to basically solve every problem. You and your partner can choose to play co-op against AI, teams against other players, or in a free-for-all to see who’s the best.

Unfortunately, the main BombSquad app isn’t available on iOS. To play with an iOS device, you have to download the BombSquad Remote app, which will allow you to join an instance of the game that’s running on Android or Windows. Your iOS phone will basically just behave like a controller for your character on the other device.

Writer's comment:

I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that’s quite like BombSquad. It’s like Gang Beasts mixed with Bomber Man even though Gang Beasts was released later than BombSquad. Anyway, the game can be pretty chaotic with bombs flying everywhere, but it’s the good kind of chaotic.

25. Just Dance Now (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

The Just Dance Now menu featuring various songs you and your partner can dance to.

Here’s something you probably weren’t expecting to see on mobile. Yup, Just Dance has an entry that’s exclusively for mobile for people at home to try. Take note that this does require you and your partner to have a TV to play on, along with your smartphones. No exclusive motion detection device needed, your smartphone will do that for you.

You and your significant other can flaunt your dance moves or laugh at each other as you stumble with two left feet. Either way, it’s all good fun.

Writer's comment:

Having a way to play Just Dance without getting a Kinect or some other device feels great! I’m no dancer, but it’s still fun to just try and imitate the moves to the best of your abilities. It’s a good workout too in case you have a partner that likes moving.

26. Happy Couple (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

The Happy Couple app logo featuring two loverbirds side by side in a red circle.

Happy Couple is a quiz game that asks you questions regarding your significant other. It’ll help you get to know each other better and strengthen your bonds. So it’s both a fun and helpful mobile game for couples. Need we say more?

The downside is that Happy Couple seems to be currently unavailable in the Google Play and Apple app stores, so you’ll have to use a third-party app store to get it. There is an app on Google and Apple that’s also called Happy Couple, but that’s not the same one, as that app isn’t even a game.

Writer's comment:

It’ll definitely help you get closer to your partner. Just make sure you both know what you’re getting into and that it’s mostly just for fun.

27. Ludo King (Android, iOS, PC) - Free to Play

A game of Ludo in the Ludo King app with six players trying to go around the board and reach their base.

Ludo King is a must-have for big fans of board games. Despite its name, Ludo King isn’t just about Ludo; it also sports a lot of other popular board games, like Snakes and Ladders and Mensch.

Obviously, you’re not going to be carrying around board games wherever you go, so having an app that does all the setup for you and your partner is fantastic.

Writer's comment:

I love board games and often play them digitally or even physically with people I’m with when waiting for a meal in a restaurant or something like that. Ludo King provides me with more options, and you can definitely give it a shot on dates.

28. Chain Reaction (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

Gameplay of Chain Reaction showing multiple players’ molecules trying to conquer the boards.

The goal of Chain Reaction is to split apart molecules and fill up the entire board with your atoms and molecules. A molecule will split up if the number of atoms in it are more than the cardinal directions (North, South, East, West) it can spread to. If your split-up atoms hit another player’s atom/molecule, they become yours.

It’s really simple, yet really fun, allowing you to play it with your partner pretty much anywhere and everywhere.

Writer's comment:

This game was decently popular among my friend circles in the past, so it’s nice to be reminded of it. It’s super casual, so you can pull it out and start playing with them while discussing other stuff.

29. Evolution Board Game (Android, iOS, PC) - Free to Play on Android & iOS, Paid on PC ($15 on Steam)

Strange and colorful creatures from Evolution Board Game living peacefully.

The goal in Evolution Board Game is to grow and evolve your species and have more food and population points than any other player at the end of the game. That’s just the basics though. The specific mechanics can be a little confusing at first, but learning the game with your partner can be part of the experience.

Writer's comment:

The gameplay is surprisingly really deep with Evolution Board Game. I feel like there’s still so much for me to learn about strategies regarding the game, but I can see it being really fun to play with your partner.

30. Pokémon GO (Android, iOS) - Free to Play

A player about to attempt to catch a Croagunk in Pokémon GO.

Here's one of the biggest sensations in mobile gaming back in 2016. It’s Pokémon, so you know the name of the game: you go around capturing creatures that are cute, hyper, fearsome, and everything in between. Only this time, you actually walk around in real life to find them with your phone using augmented reality (AR).

Pokémon GO really encourages socializing and going to different locations physically, so it’s the perfect game to plan your date around. You and your partner can set a destination, catch Pokémon along the way, and see which of you can catch more rare Pokémon.

Writer's comment:

Even though it’s not as popular as it was before COVID, it’s not like Pokémon GO got any worse. It’s still just as enjoyable today to go out and start catching your favorite Pokémon; doubly so when you’re playing it with your date.

10 Best Narrative Games (RPGs, Visual Novels, etc.) for Couples

Not everyone’s going to be into actively moving characters or thinking up strategies to win. If you or your partner want a more chill, story-oriented experience to snuggle up to, then try out narrative games.

Basically, only one of you has to play the game while the other watches and gets to be immersed in the game’s world and story alongside you. You could even have the non-playing person join in and provide voices for some of the characters to get both of you even more immersed.

31. To The Moon (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

A screenshot from To The Moon featuring a lighthouse with a small park beside it. An adult with two kids stands in front of the swing set.

To The Moon is an RPG that features Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts, who have a peculiar operation where they can grant dying people the opportunity to relive their lives in their minds. This allows them to fulfill any lost dreams and change any regrets they may have had in life.

This time, their patient is an old man named Johnny whose dying wish is to, strangely, go to the moon.

Writer's comment:

To The Moon is a really charming game, and it would probably be even better when you play it with your partner and get to discuss the meaning behind the details in the story.

32. Telltale’s The Walking Dead (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Free to Play on Android & iOS, Paid on other platforms (Price depends on platform and region)

A young boy and girl looking in the distance with a horde of walkers from The Walking Dead close to the screen.

Note: Telltale’s take on the Walking Dead series has several episodes that you have to purchase separately.

In it, you follow beloved (and hated) characters from the show. But this time, you can actually make decisions that can change their fates and give them different endings from the show.

Despite being a zombie game, The Walking Dead is definitely a more story-oriented game series. If you and your partner loved The Walking Dead or are just fans of zombie flicks in general without wanting any fast-paced gameplay, then this series is for you.

Writer's comment:

I honestly haven’t watched the show (blasphemy, I know), so being able to experience it in a format where I can actually affect the plot is great. I don’t know if this is a hot take, but I also really like Telltale's art style of using dark colors and really bold lines.

33. Chrono Trigger (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

The city square in the starting location in Chrono Trigger.

Yes, one of the all-time classics in JRPGs is on mobile for you and your partner to enjoy. You play as Crono, a hero who has to travel through time and space to save your friend and potentially the future of the world from harm.

Admittedly, Chrono Trigger is a little more gameplay-focused than the other games in this section, so at least one of you is going to have to know how its RPG mechanics work.

Writer's comment:

I enjoy JRPGs, and Chrono Trigger is one of the most iconic ones there are, so yes, I think it’s awesome. Of course, it’s old, so it may not have as many features as modern JRPGs, but that kind of works to its favor as a mobile game. Having too many things on screen in a mobile game isn’t the best experience when playing with your partner.

34. A Street Cat’s Tale (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Nintendo) - Free to Play on Android & iOS, Paid on other platforms (Price depends on platform and region)

A yellow cat with huge eyes staring into the screen with the logo for A Street Cat’s Tale in the back.

The title really says it all: you play as a street cat, and this is your tale. The big city is your playground, so eat, explore, and upgrade your house to make life easier. A Street Cat’s Tale has a lot of fun characters you can interact with and “aww” at with your partner.

Unfortunately, A Street Cat’s Tale has been taken off the Google Play and Apple app stores, but you can still find it for free on third-party app stores.

Writer's comment:

I’m a sucker for games with this specific type of pixelated art style. It really reminds me of the Mega Man Battle Network and Starforce games, which were some of my favorite games to play back in the day. The nostalgia vibes alone are enough to make me like this game.

35. 7 Years From Now (Android, iOS, PC, Nintendo) - Free to Play on Android & iOS, Paid on other platforms (Price depends on platform and region)

A pixelated boy and girl from 7 Years From Now with their backs turned towards the screen as they face a door with a bright light shining from it.

Haruto Soraki seems to be living a peaceful, normal life, but he’s actually trying to recover a lost memory from seven years ago. Explore his hometown and try to uncover what really happened.

7 Years From Now is no longer on the Google Play app store, but you can still find it on third-party app stores for Android phones.

Writer's comment:

For a seemingly cheerful game at first, 7 Years From Now is actually filled with a lot of mystery and deep emotional moments.

Also, you should know that the game may look like an RPG, but it’s really more of a visual novel. You can move around, sure, but that’s about it. Moving around is really just a vessel to move on to the next scene or conversation, and that’s about the extent of the gameplay.

36. Sarah's Adventure: Time Travel (Android, iOS, PC) - Free to Play

A view of a beautiful tropical city from Sarah’s Adventure: Time Travel, facing the sea.

Similar to Chrono Trigger, Sarah’s Adventure: Time Travel involves you travelling through time and space. Sarah’s Adventure is a bit more chill though. It’s more focused on exploration and puzzle-solving rather than preventing the apocalypse.

Writer's comment:

Admittedly, the game looks kind of like those generic mobile games you see from ads, and it does have microtransactions. But when it comes to narrative free-to-play games, that’s about the best you can expect. This game is free to play even on PC (Steam), and I just wanted to include at least one game in this section that’s like that.

37. Dark City: London (Android, iOS, PC) - Free to Play on Android & iOS, Paid on PC ($14 per chapter/episode on Steam)

A serious-looking man dressed for chilly weather standing in the streets of Dark City: London.

Dark City: London is a point-and-click mystery game where you must solve the dark secrets hiding amidst London’s underbelly. You and your partner can help each other out when solving the various puzzles and mysteries in this game.

And if you and your partner enjoyed this, you can try out the other Dark City games too. They play similarly and take you on even more mysterious adventures in other cities around the world, like Paris, Vienna, and Dublin.

Writer's comment:

This game reminds me of Big Fish’s other point-and-click games from the past, like Hidden Expedition Titanic. Dark City: London really handles those dark and gritty vibes well, even though it’s just a point-and-click game.

38. Danganronpa (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

All the students that take part in the first Danganronpa’s killing game, along with Monokuma.

Danganronpa pits high schoolers in a death game where the only way out is to commit murder and avoid getting discovered as the murderer. Despite being a single-player game, the Danganronpa games are a real blast to play with someone, as you try to speculate who the killer is every chapter.

There are three main games and a couple of spin-offs, so there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of hours of enjoyment and thrilling mysteries here for you and your partner to experience.

Writer's comment:

I’ve only really experienced the first two Danganronpa games and haven’t really dived into the third one yet. But from what I’ve experienced, they’re fantastic. The game throws so many twists and turns that it feels like half of the cast becomes prime suspects at some point in every trial.

39. Death Stranding Director's Cut (iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

Sam Porter Bridges with the mysterious baby from Death Stranding.

Nope, you’re not hallucinating, you read that right. Death Stranding has a mobile port. Unfortunately, the game is just for iOS (iPhone 15 and above), and it doesn’t seem like there are any plans to make an Android port anytime soon.

Take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges as he tries to connect the people in a dystopian America back together. I’m not even going to say more than that about the plot because it gets really deep and really confusing fast, and it’s better if you and your partner piece it together yourselves.

Writer's comment:

It blows my mind that a game like Death Stranding can run on an iPhone 15. Sure, the graphics aren’t on par with the PC and console versions, but the fact that it can even run at any decent capacity at all is impressive. If you want to experience a triple-A game without a PC or console, then this is as good as it gets.

40. Life Is Strange (Android, iOS, PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo) - First episode is Free, the rest Paid (Price depends on platform and region)

A promotional image that showcases Life Is Strange artstyle and a photograph of one of the main characters, who is a photography student.

Note: Life Is Strange comprises five episodes, which are purchased separately. The first episode is free to play on every platform, but you have to pay for any other episode after that.

Max Caulfield one day discovers she has the power to rewind time when she saves her best friend from an accident. The two of them make use of the power to try to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of a student from their school.

Things are never that simple though, as their investigation leads to the uncovering of even more dark secrets in their city.

Even though it has supernatural aspects, the game is really more about tackling some really dark themes like violence and substance abuse, so get some tissues ready for you and your partner.

Writer's comment:

Life Is Strange’s character and world-building are really good. They really keep you immersed in their world and share the experiences the characters go through, for better or worse.

Which Games Should You Introduce To Your Non-Gamer Partner?

The Party Games on this list are always a decent pick if you’re unsure. The more casual games in the PvE list, like Minecraft and Terraria, should also work well for most people.

But at the end of the day, the person who knows your partner best is you. Think deeply about what their interests are and work from there.
